Are we saved by faith “ONLY”?
Today the vast majority of the religious world says that they are saved by “faith only”. Many good people erroneously think they are saved when they “accept Jesus as their personal saviour” and say the “sinner’s prayer”. But where in the Bible are we told this? It is not found anywhere in the bible friends.
We are told to prove all things and hold fast to that which is good (1.Thess.5:21)
The fact is, just like the devil beguiled Eve in the Garden, so are men and women today by this lie of the devil. The Apostle Paul warned of people who would try to establish there own righteousness i.e. system of justification in Romans 10:1-4.
Many churches encourage persons to be baptized to join that denomination after saying the sinners prayer and this is typically done the first Sunday or third Sunday of each month. I was recently watching a youtube video and in it the minister said “come and join us for water baptism to show the world of the grace that is in you”.
Wow, again I say where does it ever equate baptism with an outward sign of an inward grace? Rather the bible teaches that baptism places a person into Christ.
Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ.
Romans 6:3 Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Some say that one does not have to be immersed (baptized) to be saved because you are saved before you are immersed. The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 1:8 “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed”.
In this case if they are eventually baptized, however their sins are not forgiven and they are not saved because their baptism was not for this purpose. One has to understand what he or she is doing.
John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me.
Acts 8:30-31 And Philip ran to him, and heard him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, Do you understand what you read? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide (teach) me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Luke wrote inspired of the Holy Spirit to Theophilus:
Acts 2:38 “repent and be baptized for the remission (forgiveness) of sins”.
Acts 22:16 “And now why do you tarry? arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord”.
“Faith only” will not save anyone. In James 2:19, 24 we read, “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the devils believe and tremble….You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.” Friends, the scriptures could not be any clearer. No wonder some despise the book of James! It says “NOT BY FAITH ONLY”.
Who will you obey your pastor that tells you this or what thus saith the LORD?
Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
If all we do is believe, then we are no better than the devils. We must be not only hearers but doers of HIS word (James 1:22). Jesus says in Mark 16:16, “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Belief brings about obedience. We cannot earn our salvation by merit, but that does not mean God does not require anything of us!
John 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that you believe on him whom he has sent.
Work is not a dirty word it is a great word.
